Governor James B. Hunt, Jr.
In 1987, North Carolina’s four-term Governor Chaired the World Class Region Conference, sponsored by the Triangle J Council of Governments, that resulted in the endorsement and creation of the World Trade Center in the Triangle.
Along with Governor Hunt, other originators included Jane Patterson, Senator Bill Staton of Sanford, Dean Thomas Keller of Duke’s Fuqua School of Business, the heads of IBM, Northern Telecom and BurroughsWellcome, supported by the Small Business Development Centers, as well as Triangle J Council of Governments.
Governor Hunt is internationally recognized for his vision, progressive actions, and leadership in support of global trade. He has been the driving force behind many North Carolina economic initiatives to diversify the State’s industrial base, attract international investment, enhance North Carolina’s position as a player in worldwide commerce, and the creation of new trade related jobs throughout the State.
Governor Hunt is with Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, PLLC. He is passionately committed to excellence in teaching in the United States and recognized nationally for his leadership in education. He is particularly focused on early childhood development and improving the quality of teaching in America. He also Chairs the annual Emerging Issues Forum, exploring major challenges and opportunities facing leaders in business, technology, education, and politics, and shaping the economic future and quality of life in the United States.
While no longer actively involved as an officer of the World Trade Center North Carolina, Governor Hunt is an enthusiastic supporter of its Mission and Objectives, remains on the WTCNC Council of Advisors, and continues to be an inspiration to who share his vision for North Carolina’s leadership in the global marketplace.
